Eddie Nketiah signs Arsenal deal: Ian Wright & Gabriel hit back at moaning fans

Arsenal announced on Saturday afternoon that Eddie Nketiah had extended his stay at the club.

He has signed a five-year deal worth a cool £100,000-per-week, per the Daily Mail.

“I’m delighted Eddie is staying with us. He represents what we are all about and all the values of the club,” Mikel Arteta told the club’s website following the deal’s completion.

“We are very happy that he has extended his contract and now we have to get to work and continue to develop the great talent and person that we have in him.”

As well as being given a massive pay-rise, Nketiah has also been handed the number 14 shirt at Arsenal.

The shirt is iconic at Arsenal and has been worn by multiple club legends, including Thierry Henry.

But not all Arsenal fans were ecstatic to see him sign a contract and be given the shirt.

One Instagram user wrote following the news: “Not good enough for number 14 we should have let him go for free. Waste of time and money.”

And the comment sparked a fierce response from club legend, Ian Wright.

Wright is one of Nketiah’s biggest fans and just had to come out in support of the Arsenal striker.

He wrote: “What’s a number? Why don’t you say nothing if you have nothing positive to say to our players? You can never call yourself an Arsenal fan with negativity of this nature? Would you say this to Eddie’s face? If not, STFU.”

What a response that is from Wright.

The 58-year-old wasn’t the only high profile name to take to social media to back Nketiah.

Nketiah’s teammate at Arsenal, Gabriel Magalhães, appeared to do the same.

The Brazilian centre-back wrote on Twitter following the news: How can you be so ungrateful! OMG”.
