Ebbsfleet United manager Josh Wright praises breathtaking support of the club after 2-0 win at Walton & Hersham in first game after four-week suspension lifted by the National League

Ebbsfleet manager Josh Wright admitted he was blown away by the backing of the club’s fans on Saturday.

It was an emotional occasion as the Fleet won 2-0 at Walton & Hersham in National League South,, with away followers making up the large majority of the 804 crowd.

The Fleet boss was taken aback by the reception, with most just happy to see their club playing football again after a four-week suspension was lifted by the National League.

“Walking in here today was breathtaking and it really got me,” said Wright.

“I took a moment inside because I just felt proud for the whole football club.

“It has been a really good week in terms of the good news on Wednesday and then going to play today, a win and a clean sheet.

“But seeing all the fans made my day and they deserve that. They deserve to go home with their smiles, whether they're going for some beer, wine, takeaways.

“They deserve to go and enjoy it because that was for them.”

Wright admitted the uncertainty of the last month has been the biggest cause for concern behind the scenes.

But in his first managerial role, the 36-year-old continues to impress with his leadership skills shining through once again.

“I can't shy away from it, there's been some tough times,” he admitted. There's been some tough moments, tough days, tough mornings, evenings.

“It's the unknown, it's the real unknown which has been difficult and then the worry and the concern that comes with it.

“You're dealing with people's livelihoods and lives. You're dealing with a lot and there's a lot that comes with it.

“It's not just about playing football. There's so much more that comes with it.

“But I'm the manager and I have to stand strong. I have to ride it and I have to go through with it.
