FA Trophy round-up: Deal Town, Cray Wanderers and Erith Town win penalty shoot-outs in third qualifying round as Ashford United, Ramsgate and Welling United are knocked out

The third qualifying round of the FA Trophy was dominated by penalty shoot-outs.

Five ties went to penalties with mixed fortunes for the county’s sides.

Deal Town debutant keeper Kye Davidson kept a clean sheet as they drew 0-0 at Ashford United before winning 6-5 on spot-kicks.

Ramsgate came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Leatherhead, only to then lose out on penalties.

A goal in either half from Tom Dryer and substitute Marcel Barrington put the hosts in charge with 15 minutes left but Rams substitute Solomon Ogunwomoju pulled one back and Billy Munday made it 2-2 in stoppage time.

The penalty shoot-out saw both sides take 10 penalties apiece with Leatherhead progressing 6-5 after Rowan Liburd, Ogunwomoju, Jacob Bland, Dave Winfield and Henry Lukombo all failed to convert from the spot for Ramsgate.

Cray Wanderers won 5-4 on penalties at Cheshunt after 1-1 draw in 90 minutes.

Obi Onyeagwara put the hosts ahead but the Wands levelled through Ade Yusuff.

On-loan keeper JJ Briggs saved Cheshunt’s fourth penalty and Cray’s Jakob Lowe stepped forward to convert the winning spot-kick.

Erith Town keeper Henry Molyneux’s penalty save ensured the Dockers progressed on spot-kicks at Hayes & Yeading.

George Goodwin put the visitors ahead only for Hayes to take the tie to penalties after substitute Joe Waight’s stoppage-time leveller.

Welling United were knocked out 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 home draw with Chertsey Town.

Lekan Majoyegbe equalised in either half for the Wings, his second leveller coming deep in stoppage time.

In-form Max Fiddes ensured Dartford didn’t need to worry about penalties after scoring twice in a 3-0 victory at Leiston. Player-boss Ben Greenhalgh netted Dartford’s second goal early in the second half.
