Dundee vs Rangers call off 'hypothetical' sees blame game erupt with SPFL caught in crossfire

Michael Stewart landed a spiky response to his "hypothetical" that Dundee and Rangers could have done more to prevent their Premiership clash being called off.

The Dark Blues saw their fourth home game of the season fall victim to the weather this season with Tony Docherty spoke revealing soon after the decision and claimed that the pitch had improved - with Dundee chief John Nelms revealed they asked the SPFL to delay the kick off. Philippe Clement also expressed his anger over the call as he warned league bosses over the standard of the pitch.

And speaking after the decision was made to postpone the game, referee Don Robertson revealed that they were "guided by the home club" and that "areas of concern" were noted early in the morning with both the SPFL and the Scottish FA contacted. After an initial pitch inspection at 9.15am, Robertson stated that the clubs and the SPFL decided that they would wait until 10.15am to conduct the final inspection of the pitch" - which saw the man in the middle decide the pitch was unplayable.

This sparked a heated debate in the BBC Sportsound studio between Michael Stewart and Rory Loy over who should have made the decision to call off the Premiership fixture. Stewart felt both Rangers and Dundee could have played a bigger role in the final decision, before Loy jumped in.

He quizzed: "What would happen there in Michael's hypothetical world if one club said they want the game to go ahead? Tony Docherty has said he doesn't know enough about it and respects the decision of those who know what they're talking about.

"But we wanted an opportunity for the game to go ahead. What would happen if one club is sitting saying they want to play and another says we don't."
