Dundee United got our respect and Stirling Uni will get the same, says Airdrie star

Striker Calum Gallagher insists Airdrie will treat Stirling University with exactly the same respect they showed Dundee United on Saturday, because they want to go as far as they can in the SPFL Trust Trophy.

The Diamonds head to Forthbank on Saturday for the third round tie against the Students, and will be heavy favourites to progress.

But Gallagher says the management team and coaches won’t allow them to slacken even for a moment as they bid to get back to winning ways.

Gallagher said: “You want to go as far as you can in the cup competitions.

“We need to approach it in the right manner, you need to approach every game in the same manner as you would if you were playing United again.

“It’s about getting that mentality right through the week, and that lies at the feet of the players and the coaching staff.

“I know they won’t let the squad switch off, or treat it as a ‘less-than’ game, so we will approach that with the right attitude.

“It will possibly be an opportunity to get the boys that have missed out in the last couple of weeks through injury or tactical reasons to get minutes under their belts.

“But it’s certainly a game that we will approach, looking to win and to put on a good performance, and get back to winning ways.”

Gallagher says there are loads of positives to take from Tannadice, despite losing 2-0 against Championship favourites Dundee United.

He said: “We had a lot of injuries and a suspension [Adam Frizzell], boys who normally would play, so it was a ‘weakened’ team in some people’s view.
