Airdrie 1 Raith 0: Gallagher goal ensures unhappy return for former boss Ian Murray

Airdrie stunned league leaders Raith Rovers to end the Kirkcaldy men's unbeaten start in the Championship - and ensure former boss Ian Murray left New Broomfield empty-handed.

Murray spent four years at the Diamonds before leaving for Stark's Park 15 months ago.

And his return to North Lanarkshire for the first time wasn't a happy one, as his side dominated for large spells only to succumb to Calum Gallagher's 73rd minute strike.

Gallagher's goal maintained Airdrie's perfect home record in the division with three wins from three, while Rovers saw their lead over Dundee United at the summit cut to just two points.

Raith had their chances, hitting the woodwork through Sam Stanton in the first half, while Diamonds keeper Josh Rae produced a couple of top stops to help his side take all three points.

Airdrie move up to sixth in the table.

The hosts made three changes from last week's brusing 4-0 defeat at Arbroath, as Aaron Taylor-Sinclair and Josh O’Connor dropped out alongside player-boss McCabe, who put himself on the bench. They were replaced in the starting 11 by Mason Hancock, Murray Aiken and Gabby McGill.

Raith had ex-Diamond Dylan Easton in their line-up, while fellow former Airdrie stars Callum Smith and Scott McGill began the day on the bench.

Airdrie created the first opening of the game in seven minutes. Calum Gallagher fed the ball out wide to Adam Frizzell and his delivery from the right was headed just off target by Lewis McGregor, who had darted in at the front post.
