‘Down to us’ - Rico Lewis makes honest Man City admission after Crystal Palace draw

Rico Lewis says Manchester City only have themselves to blame for throwing away a two-goal lead to end up drawing 2-2 with Crystal Palace.

Michael Olise slotted away a 95th-minute spot kick to snatch a point for the Eagles after penalty-winner Jean-Phillippe Mateta had pulled them back into the contest on 76 minutes. Jack Grealish and Lewis had handed City a cushion amid a dominant display from the hosts.

City have now conceded 12 goals in six matches and are winless in three home Premier League games for the first time since 2016. They remain fourth in the table and risk falling further behind in the title race ahead of their trip to Saudi Arabia for the Club World Cup.

"It’s really unfortunate but we’ve got to look at ourselves and look at our individual decisions and then look at us as a group,” Lewis told Match Of The Day. “We can’t blame anyone else. We can only blame ourselves for it.”

Palace only had 25 per cent of the possession but Mateta managed to cause the City defence problems on several occasions, winning the penalty by drawing a foul from Phil Foden. On the penalty decision, Lewis said: "There’s no complaints. The ref’s given it as a penalty, it’s a penalty. That’s all I can say. Like I said, it’s down to us. It’s our mistakes. There’s no complaints from us, only to ourselves."

City have won just one of their past six Premier League matches and only four of their last 11 top flight fixtures. Their next league game comes on Wednesday, December 22 against Everton at Goodison Park.
