Whitstable Town manager Jamie Coyle on Jack Nelson’s potential as striker signs club contract, 3-3 draw against Stansfeld and Kent Senior Trophy trip to Croydon
Jack Nelson’s game possesses attributes Whitstable boss Jamie Coyle hasn’t seen for years.
Prolific striker Nelson, who joined Whitstable after a goal-laden start to the campaign at Rochester United, has settled in nicely with the Southern Counties East League Premier Division leaders.
Nelson scored on his home debut in a 4-2 win over title rivals Bearsted last midweek.
The club have already tied him down to a contract and Coyle has waxed lyrical about the former Dover Academy player, who scored for Whites in a season-ending National League 2-1 defeat to Weymouth in May 2022.
“I’m really excited by Jack,” said Coyle. “I’ve seen things in his game I haven’t seen for years.
“He has got huge potential. We want him to be with us, firing us to promotion this year and staying with us for the long term.
"He has got absolutely everything. He has committed himself to the club.
“Now, we’re going to commit to helping him improve. Hopefully, he will stay with the club for years to come.
“When you get players with the attributes he has got, you know he’s going to have a really promising career in the game.”
Nelson came through another 90 minutes as the Oystermen recovered from a 2-0 half-time deficit to draw 3-3 with Stansfeld in the league last weekend.
Coyle reflected: “To get a point with the way the game went with us falling 2-0 down, and it potentially could have been more, we have to be pleased.
“We scored a goal (the late leveller) where the ball was out of play - and the lino’s missed it. It was a well below-par performance compared to what we have delivered.
“It was frustrating but, also, I’ve got to give the players huge credit. To draw a game with players delivering that level of performance is a really good sign.
