Herne Bay player-manager Liam Friend on sharing the goalscoring burden around, a 4-0 home win against Hastings United and tough trip to Isthmian South East high-fliers AFC Whyteleafe

Liam Friend was happy to see Herne Bay score goals from different avenues in their victory on Saturday.

Play-off chasing Bay bounced back from last midweek’s 2-0 defeat at Sheppey with a 4-0 Isthmian South East home success over Hastings.

While top scorer Kamani McFarlane got in on the act again, converting a second-half penalty, midfielders Harvey Brand and Scott Heard were also on target after winger Jayden Silcott-Brown had broken the deadlock in the 17th minute.

“Kamani scored the penalty but, on the whole, that was probably his worst day,” said player-boss Friend. “It looked like he had been out for a couple of weeks.

“As we were going to take him off, the penalty got awarded. He then decided his groin was okay for him to stay on for another couple of seconds!

“On the other side, Jayden had probably his best game for us. He caused their defence a lot of problems and got his goal. It was really positive.

“Sometimes when you have got a top goalscorer, you’re accused of being a one-man team.

“But Kamani wasn’t at his best and we still got four goals.

"In saying that, Kamani did help Rhys Wyborn out a lot, defensively.

“Even though he maybe didn’t excel in one part of his game (scoring goals), he did the other side of it.”

Two goals inside four minutes from Silcott-Brown and the experienced Heard put Bay in command.

While Friend and No.2 Tom Wynter felt Bay lost their way thereafter, McFarlane struck a 70th-minute spot-kick, won by Silcott-Brown, and ex-Margate man Brand rounded it off with seven minutes remaining.
