Double European Championship success for West Lothian archer

Addiewell archery ace Nathan Macqueen was on target as he scooped double gold in Rotterdam the European Para Archery Championships.

And the two-time Paralympian’s success also sees him just to world no.1 for the first time in his career.

Fresh off a brilliant silver medal at the World Championships last month, the 32-year-old was unbeatable in the Netherlands as he produced a super Sunday bagging gold medals in both the men’s open compound event and open compound mixed team alongside side Phoebe Paterson Pine.

The pair defeated Italy in convincing fashion, 155-132, to pick up the gold medal having defeated Turkey to reach the final.

MacQueen then made it two for two later that day as he continued his brilliant run of form with a 142-137 win over Fernando Gale Montorio in the gold medal match and secured a second European title.

He commented: "It’s a bit hard to believe to be honest as I had such a bad year last year with health issues and stuff so I only made one competition. To come out this year and medal at every event I’ve been to is a dream come true.

“I shot my shot the first three arrows then I got really excited and took my foot off the gas pedal a wee bit, but I managed to get it back again and pull away.”
