Donny van de Beek in Celtic transfer benefits sell but Man United exit gets 'huge' financial reality check

A move to Celtic could help Donny van de Beek kickstart his career with Manchester United reportedly set to let him leave.

Neil Lennon reckons Parkhead could be the place for the Dutchman to rediscover his mojo after a hugely frustrating three years at Old Trafford. Van de Beek has never really been in the picture since signing from Ajax and despite enjoying great success in Amsterdam under Erik ten Hag, the United boss is willing to let him leave rather than try to get him back to his best in Manchester.

Celtic have been linked with a swoop and Lennon reckons it could be just the ticket for the Netherlands international. However, the former Celtic boss injected a dose of realism, reminding Hoops fans excited at the prospect that the money van de Beek is earning would necessitate a loan deal at best and even then, would require a hefty wage contribution from the champions.

When asked on Go Radio if heading to Glasgow would benefit Van de Beek, Lennon replied: “Possibly - his career has sort of stalled a bit. He was outstanding for Ajax the season they got to the semi-finals of the Champions League in that really good young Ajax team.

“He went to United and it didn't work out and he went on loan to Everton and that didn't work out either. So he needs a kickstart and maybe Celtic is that place for him.

“He's certainly shown he's got the pedigree and you never lose it, you just sometimes lose your confidence or your hunger and lose your way a little bit. Players of that calibre just need a restart and maybe he's thinking Celtic might be that place to go but I mean, there's a lot of work to be done in a deal involving that.
