Donny van de Beek to Celtic transfer already has Erik ten Hag answer as Man United purgatory awaits after ultimatum

Forgotten Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has left the door open for a move to Celtic.

And Old Trafford boss Erik ten Hag may have already cleared the path for the Dutchman to swap the English Premier League for the Scottish Premiership after the midfielder failed to heed his pre-season warning last term. Reports south of the border has suggested the Netherlands international was on Brendan Rodgers' radar this summer as the 26-year-old looks to recapture the form he showed at Ajax after an injury-hampered spell with United.

A big money transfer could see the Scottish champions priced out of a Van de Beek deal but a return to Amsterdam or a move to Celtic has been floated as potential loan options. And after netting in United's friendly win over Lyon at Murrayfield Van de Been insisted anything could happen when put on the spot about the Hoops interest.

Ten Hag may look to move the player on after sending a clear message to his compatriot last summer following his return from a loan spell at Everton. He said: "I’ve seen him better in the past. But I think positioning-wise, he’s acting quite well.

"But he has to make that step up It’s either he fights [for] himself and proves himself, in this atmosphere in this environment, or he goes."

Van de Beek's last competitive first-team appearance came back in January before his season was derailed by a season-ending knee injury. He has joined the Red Devils squad for their pre-season tour of the USA, but his future remains up in the air.
