‘Do you think I’m bothered?’ - Wilfried Zaha previews Manchester United return with Galatasaray

Wilfried Zaha insists he is over his beleaguered spell at Manchester United and says he has “matured” in the 10 years since his move.

The Galatasaray winger is set to face his former club for the first time since his summer move to Turkey in Tuesday’s Champions League tie. Zaha endured a tough stay at United between 2013 and 2015.

After signing in the January but staying at Crystal Palace until the summer, the Ivory Coast international saw Sir Alex Ferguson retire before David Moyes was appointed. He failed to find favour with the new boss and made just four appearances before being loaned to Cardiff City in the 2014 winter window.

A short loan spell with Palace was agreed the following campaign before a permanent return to Selhurst Park was secured in February 2015. Asked about his concerns at United during his stay in Monday’s press conference, Zaha said: “I’ll be honest, when you look at my face do you think I am bothered at all? No.

“Realistically I think I went through a phase where you either build from it or you die out from it. And me personally, I was never going to die out from it. It built my character.

“I was determined to not let my career die out because I went somewhere and it didn’t work out. I was just determined to reach where I wanted to reach and I am here today.”

Zaha scored his first goal for Galatasaray at the weekend in a 2-1 win against Ankaragucu, taking his career tally to 91 goals. The attacker unpacked how much he has progressed since his United exit eight years ago.
