Amad offers injury update hinting at Manchester United return

Manchester United attacker Amad has hinted that he may soon return from injury in a social media update.

The Ivorian has not played nor trained with the main group since suffering a knee injury in United’s pre-season friendly with Arsenal. The forward has posted various photographs of him in the gym during his recovery process, keeping fans updated throughout.

Supporters are eager to see him out on the field after a scintillating loan spell at Sunderland last season. He has not played a competitive game for the Reds since May 2021 amid various other loan spells, but it seems Amad is not too far off from treading the turf once more.

Taking to his Instagram story, Amad posted a picture of him in United gear with the caption: "Just a little longer before returning". The chances of the 21-year-old being loaned out ended upon his pre-season setback.

He will not be able to move before January but will hope to have been back on the field by then ahead of a home Africa Cup of Nations tournament in the new year. In the meantime, he will have a chance of gaining minutes under Erik ten Hag.

With Jadon Sancho exiled from first-team training amid his public fallout with the United boss, opportunities have opened up on the right wing, a position Amad played in frequently for Sunderland last term.

Antony is back from his period of absence and will continue as first pick but Amad can challenge Facundo Pellistri for rotation game time once back fit. The former Atalanta star scored 14 goals for Sunderland last season, including one in the play-off semi-finals.
