Dermot Gallagher disputes Neil Warnock 'manslaughter' claim as Ref Watch runs rule over 4 big Premiership decisions

Nicky Devlin was lucky to escape a penalty for handball - but the rest of the big ref calls across the Premiership weekend were on the money.

That's the view of former top whistler Dermot Gallagher who ran the rule over four big decisions across Aberdeen's draw with Hibs and Rangers' 3-0 victory against St Johnstone on Sky Sports' Ref Watch. There were two penalties in Perth as Philippe Clement's team went top of the Premiership but both awards looked cut and dried in the end. Craig Levein bemoaned VAR for stepping in after Andy Considine brought down Dujon Sterling but it looked a foul even if on-field ref Matthew MacDermid initially missed it.

On the first Rangers penalty, which James Tavernier tucked away to make it 2-0, Gallagher said: "It's definitely right. He doesn't get the ball, crumples the player, VAR intervenes quite rightly and tells the referee to go and have a look. It's a penalty."

The second one was given for handball against Luke Robinson and it was under similar circumstances with MacDermid missing it on the field. On that call, Gallagher said: "It was backs to the wall (defending), but his arm's out, we were talking about this last week. Once you stick your arm out like that, the referee is always going to penalise."

The decisions at Pittodrie were a little more contentious but it was two penalties that WEREN'T given that Gallagher took a look at. The first came when Nicky Devlin appeared to handle in the Aberdeen box and Gallagher said: "He got lucky I think. Leans into the ball, gets lucky."
