Dermot Desmond plots brutal Celtic board 'clear out' as former SPL chief floats inside track

Former SPL chief Roger Mitchell has floated the prospect that Dermot Desmond is planning a behind the scenes "clear out" at Celtic.

Chairman Peter Lawwell and Celtic majority shareholder Desmond have been thrown in the firing line after failing to go on a spending spree in January with Rangers leapfrogging the Hoops to climb to top spot in the Scottish Premiership. The current plight comes off the back of a disappointing Champions League campaign - with chants of 'sack the board' heard from the stands in recent weeks.

And despite boasting impressing mid-season financial results, the pressure appears to only have intensified on the Parkhead powerbrokers from the support over the lack of transfer spending. The Parkhead club announced bumper results on Friday with revenues up to £85m and £67m in the club’s coffers. In a statement to fans, Lawwell admitted admitted the winter transfer window wasn’t up to scratch with the £3million arrival of Nicolas Kuhn and loan signing Adam Idah.

And sharing Record Sport 's story on the results to X, the former SPL chief wrote that big changes could be in the offing. Mitchell posted: "For some reason I get to hear stuff about Scottish football, even here.

"I was told by 2 different sources that DD is going to have a total clear-out of the Board and Csuite. He’s had enough they said."
