Brendan Rodgers charged as Celtic boss faces SFA punishment over blistering John Beaton VAR rant

Brendan Rodgers has been charged by the SFA following his outburst over the match officials in Celtic's loss to Hearts.

The Hoops gaffer has now been hit with a notice of complaint by SFA Compliance Officer Martin Black and faces punishment from following his post-match interview at Tynecastle. The Irishman will learn his fate at a Hampden hearing on Thursday, March 28.

Rodgers slammed referee Don Robertson and VAR official John Beaton following their 2-0 Scottish Premiership defeat - which saw Celtic fail to move back to top spot in table. There were several flashpoints in the capital with winger Yang sent off following a high boot on Alex Cochrane following a review of the pitchside monitor - that came just minutes after winning a penalty that Adam Idah missed following a tussle with the same player.

Tomoki Iwata was then penalised for a handball in another decision that infuriated Rodgers with the Irishman branding the call an 'absolutely shocking decision'. Compliance Officer Martin Black has now decided to act with the Celtic boss now in the dock over the blistering comments.

Rodgers breached Rule 72. Article 96.1 which states: "No recognised football body, club, official, Team Official or other member of Team Staff, player or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA, shall in an interview, a ‘blog’ on the internet, on a social networking or microblogging site, or in any other manner calculated or likely to lead to publicity (i) criticise the Decision(s) and/or performance(s) of any or all match official(s) in such a way as to indicate bias or incompetence on the part of such match official; or (ii) make remarks about such match official(s) which impinge on his character. For the avoidance of doubt
