Celtic appeal Yang red card as Brendan Rodgers faces rap sweat over stinging John Beaton attack

Celtic have appealed the red card shown to Yang at Tynecastle - but Brendan Rodgers must wait to find out if he will be charged by the SFA over his post-match comments.

The Hoops winger was handed his marching orders for a high boot challenge involving Hearts star Alex Cochrane. Referee Don Robertson was sent to the monitor for a second look after a VAR recommendation from official John Beaton. After watching the incident back the Celtic man was shown a red card with Rodgers' side down a man after just 16 minutes.

The flashpoint moment came just minutes after the same duo had been involved in another key talker. Yang was awarded a penalty after a challenge from Cochrane but Adam Idah failed to beat Zander Clark from 12-yards. Hearts were also awarded a spot-kick of their own after Tomoki Iwata was penalised for handball following another check with Jorge Grant converting for the hosts. Post-match Rodgers vented his fury with the officials accusing them of costing his side the match in Gorgie.

The Scottish champions have now decided to try and get the decision over Yang's dismissal overturned with a fast-track hearing set for Tuesday. A club statement read: "Celtic Football Club can confirm that it will be appealing the red card issued to Hyunjun Yang during Sunday’s match against Hearts at Tynecastle. We have also written to the SFA to raise our serious concerns regarding the use of VAR and the decisions made within the match."

It comes as Rodgers faces a sweat over whether he will find himself in hot water with the SFA after his comments over the match officials. It is not yet known whether he will be cited but it is understood compliance officer Martin Black is aware of his comments and will be in contact with
