Derek McInnes hopes 'mad' Kilmarnock red card receives Sportscene salvation after preemptive apology

Derek McInnes was left stunned after he was sent off for kicking the ball while it was still in play during Kilmarnock's 2-2 draw with Dundee.

An eventful afternoon at Dens Park saw Killie fall behind to Amadou Bakayoko's early goal, only to turn things around thanks to a Dan Armstrong double. The winger netted from the spot after half-an-hour then thought he'd won it for the visitors with nine minutes to go. But Dundee, who had Josh Mulligan sent off just after Armstrong had equalised, snatched a valuable Premiership point in the 93rd minute when Zak Rudden popped up with a late, late leveller.

But McInnes was also given his marching orders when he was a little too enthusiastic to get the action going again. The Kilie boss thought the ball had gone out when he rolled back the years and put his foot on it in order for a swift restart. But ref David Munro stopped him before pulling out the red card, telling McInnes that the ball wasn't in fact completely out.

McInnes was adamant it was. However, he's apologised while waiting to see if camera footage proves Munro was right to send him packing. Although he's hoping for a helping hand from Saturday night Sportscene.

"It's mad!" McInnes said. "I've been sent off before, but that was bizarre. I went and apologised to the referee there. I was convinced the ball was out!

"The ball boy's went missing second-half. I told the referee, if I'm wrong, he has to send me off and I apologise. I'm hoping Sportscene can help me out there."
