Derby County confirm double player agreement reached

Derby County have confirmed that talented youngsters Eiran Cashin and Liam Thompson have signed new contracts to remain at the club.

Whilst the previous campaign was a forgettable one for the Rams as they suffered relegation following the massive points deduction they were hit with, the one positive was that former boss Wayne Rooney brought through plenty of academy lads.

And, two to benefit were centre-back Cashin and midfielder Thompson, with the pair featuring in 18 and 23 games respectively in the league.

Therefore, tying them down to new deals was always going to be a priority and Derby have wasted little time after their takeover was finally approved on Friday night.

They announced the new contracts, which will both run until 2024, last night and it will end any speculation surrounding the future of the players.

It was a busy night for the East Midlands outfit, who also completed the signings of Joe Wildsmith, Tom Barkhuizen and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing as they prepare for the new League One season which begins at the end of the month.

The verdict

This is great news for Derby as the club need to be building their future around the young players who broke through last season, including Cashin and Thompson.

Both were able to do well in the Championship so there should be an excitement about how they will be able to perform in League One and they could become important players in the years to come.

You would expect there to be plenty more business at Pride Park in the next month but this is a very good start to the new era under David Clowes.
