Derby County make key appointments as Ravel Morrison seals surprise transfer reunion
Here are your Derby County headlines on Friday, July 22, 2022.
Influential defender Curtis Davies will be Derby captain this season while Max Bird has been given the role of vice-captain.
Davies takes the armband after Tom Lawrence, who was skipper last season, left the club in the summer to seal a move to Rangers after his contract expired at Pride Park. The players were informed of who would be skipper on Thursday, with centre-back Davies a hugely popular figure at Pride Park where his quality, allied with his leadership, makes him an outstanding choice to lead the Rams next term.
Davies has spent five years at Derby which is the long time he has spent at any club during his career and signed a new one-year deal in the summer which was heralded by the supporters. The 37-year-old defender, who counts Hull, Leicester City, Aston Villa, West Brom and Luton among his previous clubs, has made more than 150 appearances for the club where he is a huge fans' favourite.

Ravel Morrison has followed Wayne Rooney to the United States following his departure from Derby County.
The Jamaica international was one of a host of players who were out of contract with the Rams this summer, and it was recently confirmed that he would be leaving the club. Now, the 29-year-old has signed for MLS side DC United, who Rooney has just taken charge of after he resigned as Derby boss.
The Washington DC-based outfit confirmed the signing of Morrison on Thursday. The much-travelled midfielder arrives on a free transfer "using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC)". The former Manchester United man has agreed a deal until 2023, with an option in 2024.
