Dean Henderson names unlikely Man United player he's convinced will 'go to the top'

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has given a glowing verdict of Amad ahead of the new season.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper spent part of the summer with United starlet Kobbie Mainoo and former team-mate Luke Shaw as England made their way to the Euro 2024 final. Henderson left Old Trafford permanently last summer after losing his battle to become the club's new number one, but the goalkeeper had already been dazzled by Amad at Carrington.

The winger was primed for a breakthrough season last year, fresh from his loan spell at Sunderland, before a pre-season injury halted his progress. Upon his return, Amad scored a dramatic winner against Liverpool in the FA Cup and produced other impressive displays towards the end of the campaign, leading Henderson to expect big things from the 22-year-old.

While on England duty, Henderson was asked to name the most underrated player he had ever played against. Reflecting on their previous battles in training, the United academy graduate replied: "Look out for Amad Diallo. Obviously, he's broken onto the scene this season. He's going to be top, top."

Amad is set to significantly improve on the 12 appearances he made for Erik ten Hag's side last season. The winger made an ideal start to his preparation for the new term by scoring in United's 2-0 win over Rangers, where the Ivory Coast international endured a frustrating loan spell in 2022.
