Davor Zdravkovski wants to be Motherwell's Miovski as he tells pal 'you're not the only North Macedonian in town'

He might be playing second fiddle to Scottish football’s other North Macedonian.

But no-one is happier than Davor Zdravkovski that his pal and fellow countryman Bojan Miovski is flying at Aberdeen. However the Motherwell midfielder now fancies a bit of the limelight himself. The 25-year-old has gradually become a key part of Stuart Kettlewell’s side since arriving from Cypriot side AEL Limassol.

He hasn’t grabbed as many headlines as free-scoring Miovski at Pittodrie. But Zdravkovski is determined to emulate his pal by becoming a household name in Scotland’s top flight before joining him in the North Macedonia national team. As he prepared for Sunday's clash with Celtic, Zdravkovski said: “I’ve come from a small country and you always need to have dreams and goals. “I’ve come a long way to get here. I’ll always appreciate the road I’ve travelled to get here – but I’m never satisfied. There are always people struggling and I have so many friends back home who don’t have the chance to get out of the country because it’s difficult.

So I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to leave and I’m working hard towards my goals. For sure, I’m not stopping here, I’ll always search for something higher. I know Bojan well from the national youth teams, we have a good relationship. He explained everything about the league and the environment here before I came. He helped me with my decision but I had already made my mind up to sign for Motherwell.

“He’s done well at Aberdeen and made a name for himself. But I want to do that here too. Why not? I don’t want to say I’ll follow in his footsteps because I want to make a name for myself. But he’s a positive example for me.”
