David Moyes gives verdict on Erik ten Hag pressure at Manchester United

David Moyes doesn't believe Erik ten Hag is under pressure at Manchester United but admits that wins need to start coming.

Pressure has been growing on Ten Hag off the back of consecutive 3-0 home defeats against Manchester City and Newcastle. United have now endured their worst start to a season since 1962, with eight defeats in 15 games across all competitions.

That start is considerably worse than Moyes' first months in charge at Old Trafford a decade ago and the Scot was sacked before the end of his first and only season. Now at West Ham, he acknowledged the need for Ten Hag to turn things around in order to retain the support of the decision makers above.

“As long as he continues to get good support from the board, which it sounds like he has, it’s only speculation from other people," Moyes said. "If you’re Manchester United you have to win games, that’s part of the job.

“It wouldn’t need me to tell anybody that. But it sounds like he’s getting great support from their board and if you’ve got that you’ve got a great chance of improving results, which gives you more time. Let’s see what happens.”

Ten Hag has a huge week ahead in order to lift the pressure on United, with Saturday's trip to Fulham followed by a must-win Champions League away-day in Copenhagen. The Dutchman scraped a win at home to the Danish side last week but had Andre Onana to thank for an added-time penalty save.
