'We let each other down' - Erik ten Hag accuses Manchester United players of 'not doing the work'

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has accused his players of 'not doing the work' in some games so far this season.

The Reds have had a tough start to the campaign, and currently sit eighth in the Premier League table with 18 points from 11 games, while their Champions League hopes still hang in the balance with the team currently third in Group A. Ten Hag is hoping things improve in the Champions League when his side faces FC Copenhagen on Wednesday night, although he is well aware there is still work to do in order to have a successful season.

Last year's successes already seem like a distant memory after Ten Hag guided the Reds back into the Champions League as well as ending the club's trophy drought by sealing the Carabao Cup.

But hopes of retaining that trophy have been dashed after United's 3-0 defeat to Newcastle, while another loss by the same scoreline just days late left fans wondering if the club can mount a top-four challenge in the league. Ten Hag has now issued a rallying cry to his players - insisting they must work hard if they are to get any good results going forward.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Ten Hag said: "In some games, we let each other down by not doing the work. The work ethic has to be good always. That is the foundation to get good results.

"That was the case against Fulham and you look to reward it and you make your luck then by scoring a goal in stoppage time."

And Ten Hag knows his team will have to be on top form to win in Denmark on Wednesday night.
