Darwin Nunez handed Liverpool challenge as Jurgen Klopp makes Erling Haaland admission

Darwin Nunez couldn't have done much more in impressing Liverpool supporters following his arrival from Benfica this summer.

Two goals, an assist and winning a penalty in two cameos from the bench have offered an early hint at the potential that prompted Jurgen Klopp to rubber-stamp what could eventually become a club record £85million transfer.

Nunez, though, now faces his first real experience of life as a Liverpool player as he prepares to step out in the famous red for his home debut against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Monday night.

The Uruguayan, of course, is no stranger to Anfield having scored there for Benfica in the Champions League quarter-final in April. And the response from the travelling Kop at both the Community Shield win against Manchester City at Leicester and last weekend's 2-2 draw at Fulham suggests he is already building a rapport.

But the litmus test now awaits, with Nunez following in a long list of new forward signings hoping to hit the ground running, most likely as a starter having replacing Roberto Firmino in the last two games.

His attacking team-mates mostly didn't waste any time. Mohamed Salah similarly made his Anfield debut against Palace in the top flight, although it was as a substitute. He then scored in each of his first four home starts. Luis Diaz scored against Norwich City in his second Anfield start last season, while Diogo Jota scored as a late substitute on home debut against Arsenal and then on his second Anfield start. Only Firmino, who had to wait until halfway though his debut campaign before finding the target at home, took a while to leave his mark.
