Darren Moore outlines Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer stance

Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore has told The Star that his side aren’t going to be signing any free agents before the season is out.

The Owls had previously taken the decision to leave Olamide Shodipo off of their updated squad list in order to maintain room for a potential new addition.

However with the season now well into its second half, it appears that Wednesday have now given up on the idea of bringing anymore fresh faces in through the entrance doors to Hillsborough.

Now Moore has offered his thoughts on the situation, as he stated the following recently on the prospect of there being anymore new signings:

“We’re not going to. I said it before, to bring in a free transfer now, it’ll take four to six weeks to get them fit then another few weeks to get them ready. What’s the point?”

Instead of dipping into the market, Moore plans to wait for the players that he has out injured to recover in order to supplement his existing available options.

This should in turn provide the Wednesday boss with the depth required to achieve his and the team’s goals this season.

The Verdict

The Owls certainly have a lot more options at their disposal following the January window but at the same time they did perhaps want to bring in a few extra bodies.

However with Moore having changed his transfer approach, it appears that any more new signings at the Steel City club are very much unlikely.

Shodipo continues to recover on the sidelines and will provide another attacking option once he does get back to full fitness.

In the short term, the team’s key players have to continue to step up if Wednesday are to be right up there come May of this year.
