Daizen Maeda reveals biggest Celtic injury regret with Japanese star's son at heart of sideline torment

Daizen Maeda has revealed that the most frustrating part of being out injured is that his son can't watch him play for Celtic.

The livewire forward is out with a hamstring injury suffered ahead of Saturday's 3-0 Premiership victory over St Mirren. He watched on as compatriots Reo Hatate and Kyogo both scored to move the champions four points clear of Rangers at the top of the table. The Light Blues go to Ross County on Sunday before a third attempt at playing Dundee at Dens in midweek.

Maeda forced a sensational earlier opener in last weekend's 3-3 draw at Ibrox but Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers admitted after the win over the Buddies that it was unlikely that Maeda would feature again this season, meaning he'll be without the forward's energy for the title run in, which is set to go down to the wire. He said: “Unfortunately, I’m not sure we’ll see Daizen again this season, I don’t expect him to feature too much. It’s such a small window now."

And now Maeda has opened up on the prospect of being sidelined until the summer. He posted: "What's most frustrating is that I won't be able to show my son, who loves soccer, playing, but right now I just have to trust in my teammates and do what I can!"
