Philippe Clement claims Dundee pitch excuse 'lacked respect' as he warns farce will see top bosses swerve Scottish Premiership
Rangers boss Philippe Clement says top gaffers won’t come to Scotland if there are more Dens Park farces.
The Ibrox gaffer is still livid that Gers’ game against Dundee was postponed for a second time on Wednesday night due to an unplayable pitch. And Clement insists if similar things continue to tarnish Scottish football’s reputation, managers will choose Belgium’s second tier or League One in England over our top flight. When asked if the Dens Park incident might put players or coaches off coming to Scotland, the Rangers boss said: “If these things come back, yes.
You don’t want this story about the pitch to be normal. If everybody here says: ‘OK, this is normal. You go to Dundee two times but cannot play because the pitch is under water’, no, you don’t want that. If this is normal and you can go to the Scottish Premiership or League One, or the second tier in Belgium for example, then you go there because you know you can do your job in a normal way.
“That’s the same for foreign people or Scottish people. I think for everybody it would be really clear. This situation cannot happen again in the future. Nobody wants it.
“It’s something that has happened and now the federation has to be very clear in finding solutions. How can they avoid this ever happening again?”
Clement must prepare his side to get three points against Ross County in Dingwall today – as they look to stay in the title race following Celtic’s win over St Mirren yesterday. But before heading to the Highlands, he couldn’t hide his frustration that Rangers won’t know until Tuesday whether their clash with Dundee will go ahead 24 hours later.
The Belgian is also fuming at Dens club secretary Eric Drysdale, who blamed climate change for the double call-off.
