Cyriel Dessers reveals Rangers inside track from former star as he talks transfer interest brewing for FOUR years

Cyriel Dessers got the Rangers inside track from former Ibrox star Leon Balogun before joining the club.

And the ex-Cremonese striker, who became Michael Beale's sixth summer signing revealed he was first aware of interest from the Scottish side four years ago as he spoke of a 'long and stressful' transfer saga. Yet the Nigerian is now in position at Rangers and hoping to fire his new team to glory. It was defender Balogun, however, who sold him on the deal to make the switch from Italy.

Dessers admits he's delighted to join Beale's side but that it was a long process to get the deal over the line. He told Rangers TV: "It's a big relief to finally be here. There's been some long and stressful days but a great feeling to be here finally. The first interest came already a long time ago, I think four years ago. It's always been in my head a little bit. To finally be here now it's really nice. I think the first talks were around May so nice to be here now.

"I spoke via my emails with Nigerian national team Leon Balogun about the club. He was he was very positive about it, about the club, the coach, the people around the staff, the city. So yeah, that for me was an affirmation to go through it."
