Cristiano Ronaldo shows true colours after Manchester United star Diogo Dalot's mistake

Cristiano Ronaldo was visibly moved to tears after scoring his landmark 900th career goal during Portugal's clash with Croatia on Thursday night.

The Al-Nassr star found the back of the net just before half-time, giving the Selecao a lead at the interval in their UEFA Nations League opener. Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot had put Roberto Martinez's team ahead earlier, but an own goal from the full-back made it 2-1 at half-time.

Ronaldo's strike marked his 131st for Portugal, adding to the 769 he has amassed at club level. This milestone followed a challenging Euro 2024 campaign where he experienced the disappointment of a penalty miss against Slovenia.

The 39 year old expertly timed his run to connect with Nuno Mendes' cross from the left and steer the ball past Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic. He then celebrated emotionally by the corner flag, surrounded by teammates who shared in the moment.

Ronaldo, prior to his strike against Croatia, had already claimed the top spot for the most goals scored in men's international football. He joins the exclusive circle of only three players that have scored over 100 times for their countries, alongside Lionel Messi and Ali Daei.
