Cristiano Ronaldo faces Portugal inquest after Scotland eruption as superstar finally breaks cover amid fan backlash

Fuming Cristiano Ronaldo will face questions from Portugal boss Roberto Martinez after his stunning post-match meltdown.

The superstar exploded after Steve Clarke's battling side stood firm against the Al-Nassr forward and his teammates as Scotland claimed their first point of the Nations League group. The 39-year-old protested with referee Lawrence Visser throughout the game before finally reaching boiling point after the full-time whistle as he erupted - throwing his hands up in the air, gesturing with a thumbs down motion before storming straight down the tunnel.

Despite Portuguese media sticking by Ronaldo and his full-time antics, the travelling support were less than impressed by the former Real Madrid and Manchester United star's antics as the captain left his international teammates to applaud the fans who had made the trip to Glasgow. Martinez was asked about Ronaldo opting not to thank the irked Portuguese fans - promising that he would get to the bottom of the situation: “I didn't notice, I don't know what happened, but I'll find out.”

The man at the centre of the controversy appears to have made an attempt to defuse the situation before he jets back to the Saudi Pro League. In contrast the scenes at full-time, he presented a united front with his teammates.

He shared an image of himself the squad during the pre-match pep talk in Mount Florida. Ronaldo added the caption: "We continue together."
