Cristiano Ronaldo enjoyed playing next to Ruben Amorim for the Portugal national team and even went as far as using one word that is telling about the coach's character.
It was confirmed by Sporting Clube de Portugal on Tuesday that United had made their intention clear to pay the £8.3million clause in Amorim's contract. Talks are believed to be ongoing over the terms of the 39-year-old's notice period.
In the meantime, Ruud van Nistelrooy will oversee Wednesday's Carabao Cup clash against Leicester City at Old Trafford. But it remains to be seen whether the former Reds striker will be in post for United's crunch clash against Chelsea on Sunday.

United are languishing in 14th place in the Premier League table and supporters will be desperate to see quick improvements. It seems that Ronaldo's one-word summary of Amorim will give fans a glimpse of hope for when he takes the reins at the Theatre of Dreams.
"The Manchester United job may look like an impossible one right now, but so did Sporting's when Amorim was unveiled as their head coach on March 5 2020," Portuguese journalist Marcus Alves told BBC Sport.
"Eloquent and outgoing, Amorim is irresistible and dominates the words in such a way that Cristiano Ronaldo used to call him 'poet' in the national team. Above all, the 39-year-old doesn't tolerate lack of professionalism.
"This is a man who has pacified a team who seemed to be at war with itself once. He surely can do that twice if he's allowed to."
