Ruben Amorim told one thing by Cristiano Ronaldo he cannot do at Man United

Cristiano Ronaldo has already let new Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim know that he cannot play down expectations at the club.

Amorim is set to take the reins at Old Trafford from November 11. Following a period of mixed results under Erik ten Hag, which did include an FA Cup final triumph against Manchester City in May, both fans and the club's management are eager to see what the Portuguese can bring to the table.

However, former Real Madrid and United star Ronaldo, has made it clear to Amorim that the aim must be nothing less than the top from the outset. The Al-Nassr striker, whose contract with United was terminated in November 2022 after a fallout with Ten Hag, took issue with the Dutchman's suggestion that United weren't in contention for the Premier League or other major honours.

Ronaldo also suggested that the club required a comprehensive overhaul. With two league titles under his belt from his time with Sporting CP, Amorim is no stranger to the pressures of sustaining a title challenge throughout the season.

This experience will likely serve him well. Especially since Ronaldo, speaking on Rio Ferdinand's 'Rio Presents' podcast earlier this year, insisted that United's ambition should always be to clinch the Premier League and Champions League titles.

"Manchester, they need to rebuild everything, in my opinion," Ronaldo said (via the Mirror). "The coach (Erik ten Hag), they say they cannot compete to win the league and Champions League.
