'Criminal!' - Paul Scholes slams Manchester United player following derby defeat vs Man City

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes blasted Casemiro after the role he played in Manchester City's second goal in Sunday's 3-1 derby defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

After finding themselves 1-0 up at half-time, following a Goal of the Season contender from Marcus Rashford, United were outclassed after the break. First, Phil Foden rifled home a stunning equaliser from distance before doubling his tally with 10 minutes of normal time remaining.

Erling Haaland completed the scoring in stoppage time, stroking home an ice-cool finish after being guilty of squandering a golden opportunity before half-time. Aside from Foden's opener, which was pure class, United should have dealt with City's goals much better.

For the second, Foden exchanged passes with substitute Julian Alvarez, playing a neat one-two, and Casemiro failed to track him into the penalty area, allowing him to strike the ball past Andre Onana for a second time. As a midfielder, Scholes was hugely disappointed by Casemiro's failure to stop the move.

"Look at Casemiro during that one-two," Scholes told Premier League Productions. "In a defensive position, the holding midfield role, that is criminal!

"The gap shouldn't be that far and Casemiro, with the experience he has got, should not be getting done with a one-two there."

Holding a 1-0 lead at half-time, United's first-half showing was worthy of plaudits. They had caught City on the counter-attack and put their bodies in front of everything the home side threw at them in pursuit of an equaliser.
