Manager hints at departure for forgotten Manchester United player this summer

The manager of Denmark's national team has admitted he's concerned about Christian Eriksen's lack of minutes at Manchester United, hinting that a transfer away could be possible.

Eriksen was signed on a free transfer in Erik ten Hag's first summer in charge and he played a key role in the first half of last season before picking up an ankle injury.

When he returned from the sidelines, his involvement was carefully managed and he started 13 league games from January until the end of the campaign but played a full game just once, which led Ten Hag to identify Mason Mount as a player who could succeed Eriksen.

Mount was brought to the club to play a deeper midfield role, but his time in Manchester has been underwhelming and youngster Kobbie Mainoo has emerged to claim a starting role.

Casemiro, Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes have been the most regularly selected midfield trio in 2024 and Eriksen has been limited to a handful of substitute appearances.

Denmark's manager Kasper Hjulmand was asked about Eriksen this week and told Tipsbladet: "It is not the best situation as it is right now. I really, really hope that changes.

"I'm pretty sure we'll see a fit Christian. I know he is. But it is clear that if it continues, then for Christian it can be like it is with everyone else. There may be a concern about the level you can perform if you don't get more playing time than what it is at the moment.

"I very much hope that it changes. A player as skilled as Christian has to play, and of course we very much hope that things change at United. But not having played anymore is not the best situation."
