Coronation Street star's boyfriend 'proud beyond words' as he admits 'that's normal' over emotional wedding scenes

Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has been sweetly supported by his boyfriend as his on-screen character was seen tying the knot in the ITV soap's first-ever successful gay wedding. Viewers watched through tears as Billy Mayhew and Paul Foreman said 'I do' not once, but twice.

Dan previously told the Manchester Evening News that he was 'honoured' to be part of the soap's first same-sex marriage after some pervious close attempts over the years. In Corrie's history of LGBTQ+ love stories, one notable plotline featured a lesbian relationship between Sophie Webster and Sian Powers.

However, Sophie failed to make her wedding vows at the altar, resulting in Sian being left heartbroken and resulting in her subsequent departure from Weatherfield.

And the ITV soap also delivered another dramatic twist when Rana Habeeb’s life was cut short during the Underworld roof collapse storyline, which happened on her wedding day to Kate Connor. But Billy actor Dan has said he is 'honoured' to have been a part of the first-ever gay wedding in more than 60 years of Corrie.

But while heartache will be ahead for the couple following Paul's Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis, Corrie fans were loving being in the moment and seeing Paul and Billy commit the rest of their lives to one another during a ceremony at the Bistro. But as the celebrations got underway, there was a surprise for Billy - and viewers - as the archdeacon got the church wedding he didn't think he could have thanks to a bit of planning by Paul.
