Coronation Street's Alison King speaks out on Chris Gascoyne's 'leaving her' in exit as Peter Barlow
Coronation Street star Alison King has spoken out on Chris Gascoyne 'leaving her' as he's set to exit the ITV soap. While it's not yet known when he actually departs the cobbles, the news was confirmed by the actor himself in July.
He told Metro.co.uk that his character of Peter 'is very close to his heart,' while a Coronation Street spokesperson told the publication that the door is 'left open' - meaning the 55-year-old could return in the future.
Chris first appeared as Peter in 2000 during Corrie's 40th anniversary live episode. He then left the role in 2003 and returned in 2007 for a brief stint before returning full-time in 2008. In January 2014 it was confirmed that Chris would be leaving once again, but the following year he did reprise the role for two episodes for the funeral of Deirdre Barlow, played by Anne Kirkbride.

It was then revealed in 2016 that Peter would be making a return to Weatherfield, with Chris remaining in the role ever since. While no details have been divulged about his exit, Ryan, who plays Ryan Connor in Corrie, has teased 'special' scenes between Peter and his wife Carla Connor, played by Alison.
And as the pair are both set to be part of the upcoming 'Super Soap Week' which will see the end of Stephen Reid one way or another as he finally exits the cobbles, fans are constantly wondering how Peter's own exit may come about with some previously fearing he could have been framed for one of Stephen's murders.
While it's still not known what will happen to the character, it goes without saying that Alison will miss her
