Coronation Street fans question Eileen Grimshaw recast as soap legend returns with new look

Coronation Street fans were left seriously distracted and claimed they 'didn't know what happened' in one scene as Eileen Grimshaw made a sudden return. The character, played by Sue Cleaver, hasn't regularly been seen on-screen for a while but made a brief return during the latest trip to the cobbles.

Monday night's edition (July 17) of the ITV soap saw Eileen joking with Mary Taylor and Jenny Connor in the Rovers Return. But viewers couldn't help but rush to social media to comment on her almost unrecognisable appearance.

Actress Sue appears to have gone for the chop when it comes to her blonde locks as she - and her soap alter-ego - were seen sporting a new cropped hairstyle with her tresses much shorter than usual - and compared to the last time we saw her.

And her new appearance had some fans joking Eileen may have been recast as they flooded Sue with compliments online. @fansvfavourites tweeted: "I can’t stop thinking about eileen’s stunning new weave. we need her in every scene NOW. #Corrie." @soaps_extra said: "I’m not even watching Corrie properly because I’m trying to process Eileen’s new look #Corrie."

@THEJohnMcNee asked: "Good lord! Have they recast Eileen?! #corrie." @ConversationStr posted: "Bloody hell, no idea what happened in that scene cos I’m just admiring Eileen’s new look! Betty loves it! #corrie #coronationstreet," before adding a snap which showed Eileen in the Rovers alongside Betty's smiling picture up on the wall.
