Iconic Manchester pub Crown & Kettle is put up for sale

One of Manchester's oldest pubs has been put up for sale with a price tag of almost £1.5m.

The Crown & Kettle sits on the corner of Great Ancoats Street's junction with Oldham Road between Ancoats and the Northern Quarter and dates back to 1734.

The building was once a courthouse before becoming a pub in the early 19th century.

The free house is currently under the management of Alex Daw who is behind arts venue Sidney & Matilda in Sheffield.

Offers in the region of £1.4m are being sought for the grade II-listed building.

The Crown & Kettle was recently recognised as one of the best pubs in the North West when it was named as a county winner in the 2023 National Pub & Bar Awards.

Its previous awards include CAMRA regional Pub of the Year 2015 and Central Manchester Pub of the Year 2019.

The pub, which underwent an extensive refurbishment during lockdown in 2020, is occupied by Crown & Kettle Ltd, of which Mr Daw is the sole director.

The company has occupied the building for about three years and pays a rent of £102,000 a year.

Edwards & Co Surveyors, which is marketing the property, said it understands that the tenant wishes to sign a new long-term lease.
