Coronation Street fans hail 'best gender reveal ever' as Sarah is tricked into 'savage' baby surprise

Coronation Street character Sarah Barlow fell victim to a cruel trick played by her husband Adam in Monday's episode of the ITV soap (July 31). Sarah thought she was attending a gender reveal party to announce whether her unborn child would be a boy or girl - but the big surprise ended up being rather different.

The Underworld manager discovered she was pregnant earlier this month after her fling with bad boy Damon Hay was exposed. She told Adam the news but didn't get the best reception as the solicitor wanted to know if it was his or Damon's.

Last week, Sarah discovered the truth that it was Damon's - and her uncle Stephen subsequently doctored a letter to make Adam think a paternity test went in his favour.

On Monday night the Barlows and Platts were seen gathering in the bistro for the gender reveal party, said to have been organised by Adam. Sarah opened a box which, to her horror, contained a white balloon which floated up emblazoned with the words “It’s Damon’s”.

Adam confirmed he was responsible for the balloon and, pulling out the letter from the clinic, announced that it was fake, just like his wife.

Viewers left comments on Twitter suggesting they'd been floored by the latest developments. Jess Foxley @jessfoxley said: "The gender reveal was absolutely savage."

SuziCarrigan @suzicarrigan tweeted "best gender reveal EVER" and Meena Woodburn @Meena_jutla remarked: "Ok fair play that was kind of iconic."

The Glavinci Code @Glavlar echoed the earlier comment by saying "Best. Gender. Reveal. Ever" and Conor @conormckenna101 declared: "Adam got Sarah GOOD."
