Connor Barron seals Rangers transfer as former Aberdeen star latest to follow Pittodrie to Ibrox path

Connor Barron is now a Rangers player after the Ibrox club announced his capture on a four-year deal.

The former Aberdeen star moves to Govan after seeing out his contract at Pittodrie. Scotland Under 21 international Barron had been linked with a switch to Serie A, but Gers have fought off competition from six other clubs to land the midfielder. How much they will have to shell out for Barron is yet to be determined as the Dons will be due £500,000 in training compensation after he rose through the Reds' ranks to make the first team squad. But Gers may take their chances with a transfer tribunal, who could still increase that number.

Barron becomes Philippe Clement's fourth summer signing after the arrivals of Jefte, Oscar Cortes and Clinton Nsiala. He could yet be joined by Bayern Munich winger Yusuf Kabadayi, with Rangers keen to bring him to Scotland as he tries to thrash out his future with the Bavarian giants. A £1.5million deal to land Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane is also thought to be close.

Barron becomes the latest player to make the move from Aberdeen to Rangers. Ryan Jack, who departed Ibriox at the end of his contract, made the switch in 2017, while wide man Scott Wright joined him in 2021.
