Gareth Southgate in for 'serious questions' as raging pundits round on England boss after dreary Denmark display

A raging Alan Shearer reckons Gareth Southgate is in for 'serious questions' after England's latest underwhelming display against Denmark.

The Three Lions were far from at their best as the eeked out a Euro 2024 opening win against Serbia, but dropped points against Denmark, who cancelled out Harry Kane's opener through a brilliant Morten Hjulmand strike to pick up a 1-1 draw, have the English media in panic mode.

They top their group on four points as things stand but they haven't looked up to it for the most part and Shearer let rip at some of Southgate's decision-making after the game - as well as three players who didn't turn up. He said on the BBC: "Gareth Southgate will get serious questions. You see the players out there...Phil Foden and what he has done all season for Man City, Jude Bellingham turning up in the first game and not so much tonight, John Stones and what we have seen him do at club level. There is far more to get out of those players than he is getting at the moment.

"It was very poor, it wasn't good enough. Listening to Kyle Walker's interview, we've all been there as players, you try and take the positives. But it's Southgate's job to dissect where it's gone wrong, and there's plenty to look at there. Where do you start? No energy, no guile, I wouldn't say a lack of effort but there's so much more to come from those players."

Host Gary Lineker meanwhile focused on Kane's performance as he said: "As a striker you have two jobs, score goals, which Harry Kane has been good at all his career, and make space. He needs his manager to come to him and ask a little bit more of him. I would have expected that if I'd put in that kind of performance. Against a back three he has to stretch the play, run one way
