Philippe Clement promises ‘experienced’ Rangers transfers as he reveals recruitment failing that has proved costly

Rangers boss Philippe Clement has pledged that "experience" is on the way after the early summer business at Ibrox has focussed on youth.

It has been a busy summer so far for the Scottish Premiership side as the Belgian boss gives the squad a dramatic overhaul after Connor Barron became the fourth summer signing with the 21-year-old midfielder following Jefte, Oscar Cortes and Clinton Nsiala through the door. Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane is set to become the fifth recruit - with with all of the additions so far being under the age of 21 eyebrows have been raised by fans.

Experienced heads John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Borna Barisic, Kemar Roofe and Jon McLaughlin all left at the end of their deals last season - but Clement insists that the move to focus on long-term projects early in the window was all part of the plan. Speaking to RTV, he revealed that the decision was made to focus on bringing in stars that fit the player trading model at the club early in the window.

The Rangers boss said: "We had five players going out of the club at the end of their contracts and we didn't get any money in. We lost five players but for the moment it was easier to get the young players but there will also be experience coming into the building and we need a good balance in the squad of both.

"It was important to find these young talents and I think we found some exciting talents for the future of this club. They are ready to play some minutes in the beginning but certainly in the next couple of years."
