Clyde swoop to snatch striker from East Kilbride's grasp
Clyde have announced the signing of striker Lee Connelly, just hours after he was expected to complete a move to East Kilbride.
The 24-year-old ex-Queen of the South and Sunderland forward had been on trial at the Lowland League side and featured in last Friday night's 3-2 friendly win over Edinburgh City. Kilby boss Mick Kennedy revealed on Monday that the player was keen to join the Lowland League champions and expected a deal to be completed this week.
However, it is understood the Bully Wee came in with a bigger offer for the player yesterday, which East Kilbride were not willing to match.
Commenting on the signing, Clyde boss Ian McCall said: "Lee is a really talented and off the cuff player who gives us another good option at the top end of the pitch. He can play anywhere along the front line and also as a second striker.
“He’s spent a few years at Queen of the South at a higher level and had a great season when they were in the Championship. He has an abundance of creativity in his locker and I’m sure the fans will be very excited by his style of play.”
