Celtic 'B' and East Kilbride are tests we will relish, says Colts boss

Cumbernauld Colts boss David Proctor says having Celtic B’ and East Kilbride in their first two Lowland League fixtures could set them up for a very good start to their season.

Proctor says it’s a sign of how far Colts have come that they go into both fixtures with confidence, but says they won’t define their season, either way.

Colts kick off their campaign against Celtic at Airdrie on Friday night, before hosting Kilby the following Saturday, and Gretna 2008 on August 6.

It’s an exciting start, and one that Proctor is relishing.

He said: “It’s a tough start, Celtic ‘B’ away and then East Kilbride at home the following Saturday, but it’s as good a time as any to get them.

“It will show us where we are. A lot of the boys are new to either the league or the way we want to set up, our style of football, that sort of stuff.

“We will be able to gauge where we are with these two games, and if you get off to a good start in the league then it certainly breeds confidence and gets the players to believe in what you’re trying to do. It’s two really big games to start and it won’t define our season, but it certainly could get us off to a good start.”

Colts prepared for the game with a 3-1 penalty shoot-out defeat in the Cumbernauld Cup final, following a 3-3 draw at Cumbernauld United.

Proctor said: “It was a really good game to have, really competitive.”
