Ciro Immobile served up Celtic smack talk by goading interviewer but Lazio hero resists twisting the knife

Unimpressed Lazio icon Ciro Immobile resisted the opportunity to stick the boot into Celtic after he was asked about a win over a side with "little quality" following their Champions League exit.

The icon of Rome climbed off the bench to net two late goals and leave the Scottish Premiership champions with just one points in five Group E matches - as Brendan Rodgers was left facing the prospect of no European football next year after a miserable campaign among Europe's elite clubs. The double from Lazio 's record goalscorer sent them into the knockout round - coupled with Atletico Madrid's win over Feyenoord later in the evening.

And among the celebrations, the result leaves Celtic with a host of unwanted records as they extended their winless run in European competitions to 15 games - the longest streak of any British club. The lacklustre return from the Parkhead outfit sparked a pot shot during his Sky Italia post-match debrief - with the Hoops branded a side with "little quality on the night" by the interviewer.

It was then followed up by asking what it was like to face a "team with little left to play for" with the Hoops clinging on to hopes of salvaging their Euro campaign. However, Immobile wasn't having any of it and instead praised Celtic's Champions League experience compared with the Serie A side.

He answered: "We knew it was a balanced and tough group. They are all teams used to playing this competition, for us it was only the second time in recent years. It will be tough until the end. We started well because the first points gave us good morale.
