Chris Sutton tells Rangers stars 'keep your mouths shut' as Celtic hero points to Ibrox identity crisis

Chris Sutton doesn't know what to make of Rangers after their Viaplay Cup Final defeat to Celtic.

And he told Ibrox stars like Fashion Sakala to do their talking on the pitch rather than in the media beforehand. Sutton is billed as a pantomime villain at Ibrox with his war of words with Michael Beale dominating the headlines in the build-up to the Final but feels he has had the last word.

Sutton vs Beale was just the beginning of the fighting talk across the Glasgow divide as Sakala declared Rangers "much better" than Celtic - a quote that has since been thrown back in his face after Kyogo's double downed them at Hampden as the Hoops retained the trophy. Sutton reckons Rangers are going through something of an identity crisis as he told Viaplay he doesn't know "what they are". But he thinks a good first step to getting back on track would be "keeping their mouths shut".

He said: "At this moment in time I don't quite know what Rangers are. I think they played with real fear in the first half and they got a bit of momentum after he goal. But a lot of goal was hoofing the ball up to or into the box for Morelos and hoping something would break.

"It's a lesson for Rangers, a player or two have shot their mouths off in recent weeks. It's better to shoot your mouth off when you have won a trophy or two. And that's a lesson, keep your mouth shut, win a trophy and then you can start cheering and celebrating."

Sutton later went on:"The difference in the teams for me is Celtic do their talking on the pitch and Rangers haven't done that recently. They paid the price for that today. Celtic are an incredible team with their intensity, they use the bench well with the subs, they're in a great place at this moment in time."
