CHRIS SUTTON'S RELEGATION REVIEW: Newcastle may dump Everton into mix

The battle against relegation is heating up in the Premier League and there are five teams sweating over their top flight future who will be in action in midweek.

Two of them face each other as Newcastle United host Everton, while teams currently inside the bottom three including Watford, Burnley and Norwich City all face difficult fixtures.

Former Premier League striker and Sportsmail columnist Chris Sutton previews the key clashes this week and offers his predictions.

There are bound to be new signings on show and it is about whether they can hit the ground running. Can Chris Wood get his first goal for Newcastle? Will supporters get to see some of those Bruno Guimaraes skills which they have been watching in YouTube clips of their new £33million man?

Is Dele Alli capable of playing like he did in his prime? What about Donny van de Beek? Everton want to play a more expansive game under Frank Lampard but right now, their priority is to not be dragged down into the relegation race.

They are currently on the edge of it. Lose to Newcastle, however, and they are properly in it. This game could go either way. It is bound to be a close contest.

PREDICTION: 1-1

Watford got their first clean sheet of the season away at Burnley in Roy Hodgson's first game. That is what the pragmatist Roy wants to do — make them difficult to beat, first and foremost, which is what he wanted to do when he became my manager at Blackburn in 1997.

Under Claudio Ranieri, Watford's players would go into games wondering: 'How many do you think we'll concede today?' If you are keeping clean sheets, you will pick up points.
