Chiefs coach on Du Preez ending his goal drought: 'It was just a matter of time'

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane claims he was not worried about Ashley Du Preez's dry spell in front of goal and that it was just a matter of time before he found the net again.

The forward ended a four game barren run after scoring the second goal in a 2-0 win against Royal AM on Sunday.

The victory was the Glamour Boys first win of the new year as they moved up to fifth in the table after scoring their first goals of the new year as well.

Zwane was delighted that Du Preez who has been under immense pressure this season for his poor goal since joining from Stellenbosch FC ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

"I was not worried about Ash, he is a team player," Zwane told reporters.

"Sometimes he doesn't score but he creates and he does well when it comes to defending because as I said, he is a team player.

"It was just a matter of time that he scores a goal and I'm happy for him and I just hope that this one will boost his confidence going forward to score more goals."

The victory helped reignite Amakhosi's season as they attempt to finish in a Champions League spot after what has been a testing season for Zwane and his charges.

Zwane acknowledged that results have been up and down this season, however he says that they will take one game at a time as they look to finish best of the rest.

"To be honest, we will always want to put ourselves under pressure and compete at the highest level and be amongst the best," Zwane told reporters.

"In terms of results we've been fluctuating and it's understandable because of the injuries. We will try to push hard, to push all the way and treat every came as they come to one game at a time but every game we play we play to win.
